Happy Hormone Crunch Balls
These Happy Hormone Crunch Balls are a delicious and easy way to get in healthy fats with the added benefit of hormone-balancing maca root. I also sneak in a detox powder to give them an extra nutrition boost. They’re not super sweet, so feel free to add sweetener to taste.
What’s so special about maca root?
Maca root is a cruciferous vegetable native to the Andes, renowned for its hormone-balancing benefits. As an adaptogenic herb, it helps keep cortisol in check, which can be a game-changer if stress has your cortisol levels on the rise.
Here’s what maca can do:
Supports Hormonal Balance: Maca root is believed to help regulate hormones and support overall hormonal balance in the body.
Enhances Libido: Often used as an aphrodisiac, it boosts sexual desire and improves sexual function.
Reduces Symptoms of Menopause: Maca root may alleviate common menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disturbances.
Improves Fertility: There's evidence suggesting that maca root can enhance fertility in both men and women by promoting reproductive health and hormonal balance.
Supports Thyroid Function: Maca may support healthy thyroid function, which plays a critical role in regulating metabolism and overall hormone levels.
Boosts Energy and Mood: By supporting adrenal function and reducing stress, maca helps improve energy levels and mood stability.
Regulates Menstrual Cycle: It might assist in normalizing menstrual cycles and alleviating symptoms of PMS.
Balances Estrogen Levels: Maca can help balance estrogen levels, beneficial for women with hormone-related conditions and men with low estrogen levels.
While maca root can be a game-changer for many, not everyone feels the shift right away. So, give it a try and see how your body responds!
Happy Hormone Crunch Balls
Prep time: 30 mins
Ingredients
1 cup sunflower butter or nut butter of your choice
¼ cup ground flax seeds
1/4 protein powder of choice (hemp, bone broth powder)
1/3 cup cocoa nibs
1/2 cup cacao butter (melted)
2 Tbs raw honey (or to taste)
2 Tbs coconut oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup raw cacao powder
1/4 cup gelatinized maca powder
I will typically add 1-2 scoops of Standard Process Chai flavored Detox Balance for extra detox benefits
Instructions
Add all the ingredients into a mixer and blend well.
If the mixture is too runny, put it in a bowl and refrigerate until it's firm enough to form balls.
Make teaspoon-sized balls. (You could also put this into silicone molds and make cute "truffles."
You can roll the balls in cacao powder, shredded coconut, cocoa nibs
Keep refrigerated because they will melt if they get warm.
Notes:
Sunflower butter will make your balls a bit runnier than, say, peanut butter, but they're really creamy, and the flavor is almost like Nutella.
