The Road to Nowhere Leads to Happy Places

The Road to Nowhere Leads to Happy Places

We hopped in the car over the weekend with no real destination in mind besides “North.” I did want to stop by Nature’s Touch Nursery and Harvest in Templeton, so I guess I actually had one destination. We thought we would head over to the coast and possibly Big Sur after that.

Well, we got as far as Paso Robles, an entire 45 min. away. The park in the middle of town, and the few blocks surrounding it, is like it’s own little village. There are so many great wine tasting rooms and restaurants, it’s not hard to spend and entire day, which is just what we did. We had so much fun!

We started out with a great lunch at Odyssey Cafe. We then found a fantastic new, or new to us, wine lounge, The Wine Center – Wine Shop and Lounge where we delighted our palates with some splendid local wines including Denner – Dirt Worshipper, a very cool label Brian worked on. Denner - Dirtworshipper The interior of The Wine Center is awesome; sleek, clean and cozy. We knew right away it was done by Green Goods, a local company specializing in bamboo, recycled and earth friendly materials. You can taste by a prepaid card or you can buy a glass or bottle, grab a appetizer plate, which they offer, and hang out in their oh-so comfortable chairs. The owner, Ryan, was very cool and knowledgeable about the wines. I really liked this place, and the bonus is; 100% of their net proceeds go to Wine for Wells a program that provides clean drinking water around the world. How cool is that!

Of course, we had to stop at The Cheese Room for some snacks to munch on throughout the day. The woman serving us was super helpful and cheery. They have a huge selection of the most deliciously mouthwatering cheeses. I am a cheese girl, so I was in heaven.

We ended the day with a stop at 15 Degrees Wine Bar in Templeton and discovered they had sake tasting, surely!15 Degrees Sake Tasting
It was a sweet ending to deliciously satisfying day. I love discovering new things in my backyard. We all need to get out and act like tourists every once in a while, don’t you agree?
Oh, didn’t make it to Nature’s Touch, so guess what that means…another trip, but that will be the first stop next time!
